we shouldn’t expect new users to be looking for a new hobby.
Infinitely this!
Yes, it’s super cool to have control over your own damned machine but for some, the computer is just the thing the lets them work, porn and game.

Unless it’s Arch. At which point we need Ramsay bowing down or somesuch.

Ahahaha!
Yeah, Mint as well. From my reading it’s because I have an additional layer, my tv goes to the stereo receiver and from there links into the computer. Unfortunately, the receiver tells the computer when it’s shut off but not when it’s turned on or somesuch. So, right now I’ve “solved” the issue by disabling the auto shut off. But it means the computer always thinks three monitors are on and engaged. Which causes issues as my primary is the desktop monitor etc. Nothing outrageous but one of those tweaks I’d like to make. And unlike Windows, it’s a tweak I know I can make.

That’d be cool!

That’s so wild, I had no idea of that history, thanks for sharing!
Stuff like this is why I still love social media.

I think you nailed it exactly. Also, someone else pointed out there was a time when Linux could legit break your monitor and even though that hasn’t been the case for years it’s still a bit of a sore spot.

I’m sorry I’m a dumb newb, who just went with Mint, I’m unsure what X is.

Absolutely true and well put.
I should have said “third display” instead of “all” because my unusual setup is important context. Honestly, I’m also probably not highlighting that enough when evangelizing about it.
To me, a big chunk of the excitement of linux is that regardless of whether linux or someone else is better out of the box, with linux, I can change whatever needs changing. There will always be some tinkering left and nothing stopping me from it!

In some ways better, some ways worse. I lile that not everything resizes incorrectly, several moments after changing the monitors. On the downside, linux assumes third monitor is always on etc which can get annoying.
End result is, currently (and this is probably solveable, I just need to devote the time to being indoors and on a computer) sitting down to watch things on tv is most easily managed by setting up with the regular monitor on etc. But working on the regular monitors or switching a monitor between one computer to another, is much better on linux.

I don’t think a lived experience can be amusingly wrong but to each their own?
My issue comes because my set up is highly unusual, the third display is an infrequently used tv that’s connected through a receiver. With a little bit of fighting I have a workable albeit inconvenient system. A fix is possible but as stated in the meme, it’ll take some effort etc.

It’s because one of my three is a sporadically used tv that’s hooked up through my receiver system. Windows had trouble with it too and in more irritating ways. I just have to sit down and do some work to create a way to easily toggle between 1, 2 and 3 screen layouts/settings etc.

As much hate as we have for LLMs, I’ve had a lot of luck using them to figure out meals for whatever weird food is on special. It’s led to all sorts of interesting meals for fairly cheap.
Generally, I’ll go grab whatever cheap protein is out there from a large market, then hit up my local grocers, see what’s on special and ask an LLM to come out with 4 suggestions based on the foods I give it, choose one, ask for 3 - 4 variations in ascending difficulty, then select one and I’m good to go. Not all have been 10/10 but a lot have been great!

I dunno, I babysit my friends’ toddler and she has way more self awareness.

Never heard of that, I’ll check it out. Thanks!

Never heard of these, I’ll take a look! Thanks!

From Canada, in fact from my city, The Dreadnoughts! Their first three albums are punk gold. (Later stuff, they started having fun and doing polka etc. But whenever I see them in concert, they mostly rock from the first 3.)
If you’re only going to listen to one, Polka’s Not Dead would be my recommendation.
(Full credit to the Real McKenzies for paving the way, Chip would be their most famous song.)

I’ve bounced around. Liked Tidal but can’t support an American company these days. I’m currently on Qobuz and enjoy it. The UI isn’t amazing but it’s not bad. I really enjoy the playlists/essential listening features, I’ve fallen down a lot of interesting wormholes that way. They’re also curated by people not algorithms, so your personal recommendations might not be as on point as you’re used to but the general playlists have a wide enough selection that I’ve had a great time.
There’s a service called Soundiiz that helps you move favourites/playlists etc from one service to another relatively painfree, so honestly, maybe give each one of them a couple months and see what works best for you?
Battle Angel Alita was a lot of fun. (Admittedly, I’m a sucker for good action sequences.)
