Have I discovered a rare pro-capitalist user of lemmy.ml?

Some people are, it’s called antitheism. I confess when I was an edgy 16yo I was like that, but I had just left a religious cult so don’t judge me too harshly.

If NYC uses ranked choice voting in the general as well and Cuomo learns from his disaster of a campaign then he might try coalition-building with Eric Adams or others to pull off a win by getting neoliberals and MAGA to gang up on Zohran. It’s a headscratcher for me because I never expect neoliberals to learn from their mistakes, and yet they might actually feel forced to because they never fail to pull out all the stops against progressives, let alone an actual socialist.

The CCP acts like just because the state owns major enterprises then the workers - through the state - own the means of production. Our suburbs are liminal spaces that more closely resemble purgatory than actual communities, which is why everyone who grew up in them is at least slightly insane.

This is a small town. We don’t call them villages, we call them towns for some reason.

The word village implies community, and we don’t do that kinda thing in the states.

The writers are genuine in their messaging, the corpos just don’t care. When someone slips a revolutionary message into the stream of “content,” the appropriate thing to do is to consider it, turn off the TV, and act accordingly.

Rawls emphasizes that the liberties of the intolerant should be constrained only insofar as they demonstrably affect the liberties of others: “While an intolerant sect does not itself have title to complain of intolerance, its freedom should be restricted only when the tolerant sincerely and with reason believe that their own security and that of the institutions of liberty are in danger.”

That’s a whole lot of words to communicate what could be easily described by reframing the concept of tolerance as a social contract rather than a moral precept.

The sedentary office lifestyle is genuinely disastrous for your health, both mental and physical. It’s especially insidious owing to the fact that the effects are largely invisible, just massively increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer. That’s not to say that the other extreme of constant manual labor isn’t also disastrous for your health, just that I don’t think the health effects of a sedentary lifestyle are taken seriously enough by institutions and people in general.

The difference with these AI cults is that the AI is essentially standing in for the cult leader. A cult leader that can speak to millions simultaneously in one-on-one personal conversations is something new that is going to have real world consequences.

I think another thing you’re missing is that while advances in technology historically didn’t bring about the apocalypse, they have on numerous occasions been the catalyst for major social upheaval and disaster. Society and culture has to adjust to these kinds of changes to what is possible, and that is not always pretty.

She is both a climate activist and advocate for Palestinian liberation, and framing her risking her life to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinians as a shallow attempt at staying famous is incredibly ignorant and arrogant.
