I had a bad time with mint on my desktop. HDMI, wifi, Ethernet, none of that worked.
I’m currently on pop_os and it’s been fine so far.

I’m trying to use my company ERP to talk to a counselor about my feelings around all of this.
I’m pretty confident ERP isn’t “erotic role play” here but I’m not sure what it is.
I don’t think the board wants to do that, because the board is composed of CEOs and friends of CEOs. The rich have class solidarity. They’re not going to fuck each other over like that.
I just wrote elsewhere in this thread but to repeat myself: I think the real job of a CEO is to schmooze with other CEOs and rich idiots. They get funding. Everything else is pretty much a liability, and would be better handled by someone with relevant expertise.
My understanding is CEOs are mostly good at schmoozing with other CEOs and investors. A lot of investors operate on vibes, so having a CEO that can vibe with other rich bros can open pathways to funding. That’s about it. Everything else they do is a liability or could be better handled by someone with relevant expertise.
Also, we probably shouldn’t be driving most of our productivity based on the vibe check of a few rich boys.
Oh dang I didn’t know this was happening or I might’ve gone.
Loans are forgiven if you die, right?
Fuck instacart. Pay your workers their value.
Also I just never use instacart. There’s like 5 groceries I can walk to (in NYC). If I had to order, I’m pretty sure there are better options.
The average person doesn’t know and doesn’t care. They see AI slop and go “oh wow!”
I feel like most of the people I know don’t do any analysis of any media in their life. They just go “oh cool” and let it wash over them.
They tried, but I don’t think they did a great job.
I was limited by time and duration. I wasn’t allowed to start playing games until like 3pm, and wasn’t allowed to play after dinner. (If I went to someone else’s house, the rule didn’t apply. If someone came to my place, video games were also allowed, but my parents didn’t like people coming over). I also had to finish all my homework first. I remember just watching the clock on the weekends waiting for it to tick over to 3pm, then dashing up the stairs to the games.
For some reason, I was allowed to watch as my TV as I wanted. I’m old and tv was limited, and we didn’t have all the channels.
What ended up happening is I would lie. I would say I had finished my homework when I hadn’t to get that sweet, limited video game time. I would say I was watching TV in the basement but I was playing games with the sound down.
This trashed my school habits. I was doing all my homework the morning it was due. I was a smart kid so everything was still getting done well enough for me to get B’s, but this wasn’t great. When I got to college I had no study habits or learning stamina.
To this day I kind of find tv and other passive watching unsatisfying. I never watch anything on my own. Only with someone else.
I don’t know what would have worked better. The clock based limit felt terrible though. Really hated that. Maybe if they had explained “if you put all your stat points in video games now, when skill ups are cheap, you’re going to be underpowered later” it would have landed.
I can imagine an engineer working on the OS going “we’ll expose battery info via this API. Responsible developers can then use this to, like, turn off battery intensive operations when the charge is low”. Something naive and optimistic like that

Oh, I see the point you’re making.
I assumed that the information was there to be found, and a regular search would have returned it. Thus it would not have taken hours.
Personally I don’t really trust the LLMs to synthesize disparate sources.
Client side power usage for conventional Internet search is about the same as chatgpt. I’m not sure why you’re talking about laptop power usage.
Conventional search is less likely to lie, though.
Regular search could have also surfaced that information
Cool. I’ll subscribe, thanks
I’m not aware of any NYC communities, even inactive ones, on the fediverse, though I haven’t looked very hard. That link you provided errors out, if it’s supposed to work.
I walk past a couple bars a lot and they seem to have the same amount of people. All the outside tables had folks last night.
I’m not going to bars because I’m unemployed. Like I say, if capital wants me to spend money they can give me some, first.
I’d like to see a community for cool stuff happening in NYC.
I’d like to see more stuff for organizing protests and resistance, also for the NYC area.
Gerrymandering should be a crime and conviction should mean removal from office and a life long ban on working in politics.
Now we just need a way to do that that isn’t vigilante violence.
It is kind of frustrating how every system needs to resist people (usually conservatives) from acting in bad faith.
