It’ll be let down by the relentless barrage of propaganda in the right-wing press after it’s passed. Expect endless bleating from “small business owners” who only manage to rake off a few mil a year while paying their staff minimum wage.

What could let it down is it not being passed, or the lords pressuring the government to water it down.

As it stands, it’s a good set of changes. The strongest increase in workers rights we’ve seen in a generation.

Somehow, someway, I have a feeling that this bill is Neolib pablem full of holes for companies to exploit and it will change fuck all.

An ID card requirement to be recognised as a worker? That might do it.

Isn’t there already such a requirement? Last time I moved job I had to bring in my passport for HR’s records.

I haven’t had a chance to review the current ID proposals and reports of it being a government “app” don’t inspire confidence. However the idea of a single digital proof of ID when it is required for interacting with government services isn’t the worst idea in the world. If it turned into a requirement for day to day life that in my mind would be unacceptable.
