Not as much as I would have liked them with someone else in the lead role. Especially Shutter Island. It’s one of my favourite books and Dicaprio ruined it with his usual overly affected New York accent straight out of SNL.

Leo DiCaprio. No exceptions. The movies he’s been in that I’ve enjoyed were enjoyed despite him and not because of him.

His entire approach to a character is to put on an over-the-top accent and call it a day. I’ve never had the sense that any of his characters were the actual character and weren’t just “Leo with an accent”. I’ll be fair and say that he has improved in recent years, with movies like The Revenant being tolerable.

But holy shit, how his career went anywhere when people saw his “acting” in Titanic and especially Romeo and Juliet, is mind-boggling to me.

I’m no swifty. But I would be a huge fan if she dropped the hammer on Musk and Grok for this. It’s only a matter of time before Musky fucks with the wrong billionaire.

I wish there had been a way for Kellog to be more than just “a guy you kill on the way to the institute”.

He deserved to be more fleshed out and used.

As with everyone else, I agree that Ublock origin is the first wonder of the world.

Also up there however is just password managers in general, be that bitwarden, lastpass, protonpass, etc…

Because I’m not going to willingly give my creative efforts over to a corporation that will hold it hostage and only allow me to work so long as I’m using only their products.

The only way that has any accuracy is if the Linux photo has a button that quite literally manages most of the other buttons for you, and the more complicated stuff exists really only if you want to do it manually.

You can get by just fine literally never touching any of those buttons day-to-day. But they’re there for the people who want to get down in the mud with their operating system.

I’m not sure exactly where the beginning was, but I believe it started with a relatively famous scene from the movie Deliverance.

I mean sure, it sounds good. But the entry cost is enormous. Who the hell can afford a banjo in this economy?

The people who have the power to change it are the people who want it the way that it is.

Protests don’t matter. Boycotts don’t matter. For one simple reason.

You’re not their customer. The people buying the data they collect from you are. There will never be enough people willing to do away with their precious smartphones and tablets to make a dent in ithat.

Because the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Chaos makes the news. Boring doesn’t. Countries that are currently being run by mostly functional adults don’t find themselve in the news as much as countries that are a literal dumpster fire being fed by boat-loads of orange toddler piss.

Ergo…the U.S. news is everywhere at the moment.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a paid service using FOSS software if that’s the route they want to take. Using FOSS doesn’t mean you have to rely on donations only and aren’t allowed to charge. It only means you have to keep the source code freely available.

There’s a pervasive, damaging, and limiting misunderstanding about the word “Free” that has always been a problem in the Open Source world. This notion that things that are Open Source should be “No Cost” just because the source code is readily available and anyone could technically spin their own fork of it if they had the ability to do so.

But NO WHERE does it actually say that FREE means “Free as in Beer”.

If you don’t like it and don’t want to sign up, more power to you. That’s your freedom of choice. And to be honest, an instance asking for a fee probably wouldn’t be very successful.

But pretending that there is something either shady or legally or morally wrong with asking for a fee for using FOSS software is harmful to the very notion of FOSS and the upvote ratio you’re getting is a shameful example of how pervasive the whole “But GIMP/INKSCAPE/BLENDER is supposed to be free!” whining has become from users who have no clue what the “FREE” in “Free and Open Source” actually means.

I’d have more respect for our Canadian leaders if even ONE of them would just stand up at a podium and say “nope…we’re ignoring it. Everyone knows it’s a pump and dump scheme to deflate and reinflate stocks. And in a week he’ll be removing them.”

Everyone KNOWS he’s a fucking grifter, but politicians don’t want to say it out loud.

No I really wouldn’t be. But it’s still disheartening.
