Wait, wait, wait. You’re blaming arch for Nvidia’s fuck up?
Honestly, mint isn’t bad or anything. I’m running an endeavoros sway build for my computers, but I recently installed mint on a laptop I was giving my rather tech illiterate sister. It was quite snappy and had a pretty cohesive interface, I was actually kinda impressed by how smooth of a process it was and how usable it was. I used to recommend installing Ubuntu on if they weren’t the most tech literate, but often it had some issues, but now mint is pretty much a go to. I fully expect to be the tech support if necessary, but I kinda suspect that it won’t be super necessary these days if you set it up right from the get go.
Addv4@lemmy.worldto Linux@programming.dev•Linux Breaks 5% Desktop Share in U.S., Signaling Open-Source Surge Against Windows and macOS5·28 days agoProton and the like should be mostly ok on most Linux distro, the main reason for arch for a lot of people is the AUR and being able to get the latest updates first. It’s a bit of a double edged sword, but it rarely is an issue once you get the basics down. That being said make sure to occasionally read the arch wiki, it’s often a better resource than just copy pasting forum fixes that might cause other issues or just not work. Hope you enjoy!
Addv4@lemmy.worldto Linux@programming.dev•Linux Breaks 5% Desktop Share in U.S., Signaling Open-Source Surge Against Windows and macOS5·28 days agoIt’s based on arch, so technically sure, but be prepared for the pedantry. Ran arch for years, switched to endeavor because it allowed for a basic sway install to rice on pretty easily without having to configure every little thing. Arch is great, but maintenance can get old after a while.

Addv4@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do fancy cars look fancy and cheap cars don't? Can't you just slap a Lamborghini-style chassis onto a lawnmower engine if you want?8·2 months agoIt depends on the frame and the ideals of the manufacturer. You can make a sports car with essentially an economy motor from the same brand (Miata, MR2) or maybe a reliable engine from another (Lotus with Toyota engines), but largely it comes down to if the brand wants to spend money to do it.
I’d love Golf with your friends if you have it available, thank you!
As for good gaming memories, I’ve been meeting with some out of state friends for movies and games on discord for the last couple of years, and I’ve had many a moment having fun just doing stupid stuff playing raft (we went through the whole game, it took about 6 months with our schedules constantly changing). I think one of the funniest memories I have was trying to use the snowski in that game, as one of my friends uses audio controls to play and she was constantly running off without meaning to and being unable to control the snowski gave us all a good 15 min just chasing her.
Golf with friends looks like it might offer some fun to the group as well, thanks in advance.
If you absolutely need it, then get it used or other method to where the original manufacturer who paid for the ad doesn’t profit, duh.
Yep. Most of the time someone has marked it somehow because it’s immensely annoying. That being said, there are a few stations that aren’t able to be muted, so I intentionally make a point to note whatever is being advertised and never buy it.

Addv4@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Has The Reddit acknowledged the existence of Lemmy?English14·3 months agoPretty much. I still occasionally have to go to reddit for some random questions, and the difference in tone is often rather jarring.
Depends on your workflow. I’m usually using a i3wm or sway environment so I can put windows side by side, but on my ultrawide monitor it usually is best to limit that to two windows (usually a couple of browser windows or a browser and a terminal). I also often have a text editor open as well, so it helps if I can open that on another desktop, and quickly switch to it as needed. My main goal isn’t to really minimize anything, just switch desktops because I find it easier to just switch around. In windows I generally don’t use desktops as I find their goal is more to have you minimize stuff which I find kinda annoying because I have to resize the window or something when reopening them.
