Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says AI doomerism has 'done a lot of damage' and is 'not helpful to society'
71·1 month agoIt’s not enough, guys. Just about everyone with a 401(k) or a pension is giving us truckloads of money, but it’s not enough. We’re cooking the books, but it’s not enough. We’re paying OpenAI to buy our GPUs and IT’S STILL NOT FUCKING ENOUGH.
It must be the AI doomers. Those morons, those Luddites! AI has amazing benefits, like agreeing with people so hard they go insane, or counting the letters in “strawberry”, or undressing children! And those people think the same technology could cause the end of the world?
Those doomers are definitely the paper jam in the money printer. We gotta get rid of them. Then the money can really flow in!
Even better, they might not even be selling all the ones they’ve already made: https://unusualwhales.com/news/burry-demands-proof-of-warehoused-nvidia-gpus-ai-bubble-warning-hits-hard

99·3 months agoAh, see, you think you heard that MAGA was going to “release the Epstein files” but what they actually said was “we’re going to release the Epstein pedophiles.” Yeah, they’re letting everyone involved with him off the hook.

11·3 months agoThank you! Seeing a picture of Lawrence Krauss in a NYT article like this…god. It sustains me. See also this Rebecca Watson video: https://youtu.be/VNLdyWPAz18 wherein she talks about just how gross he is. Truly, we are lions led by donkeys. How these people manage to fail upward is really something to behold.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•You have one week to opt out or become fodder for LinkedIn AI training
46·3 months agoFuck that, lean in! Generate a fake profile with ChatGPT. You’re not an IT drone, you got a Wharton MBA. You spent 10 years volunteering as a street sweeper for Doctors Without Borders in Port-au-Prince before you got your big break in forensic accounting. In your spare time you enjoy carving tiny canoes out of toothpicks and staging mock naval battles with the bugs you catch as an amateur entomologist. LLMs can’t make our lives better, but we sure as shit can make them worse.

News@lemmy.world•Heritage Foundation President Offers to Quit Over Tucker Carlson Mess
25·4 months agoQuestion: is Tucker sanewashing Fuentes by giving him an in to mainstream media? Or is Fuentes “nazi-washing” Tucker and helping him out by giving him access to Fuentes’ audience? For a much better breakdown than I can give, Dan & Jordan at Knowledge Fight just covered this in episode 1089.
Tucker has already debased himself, as if that were possible, by interviewing the likes of Alex Jones (who of course has had Fuentes on his show multiple times). It’s not like he’s any more guilty by direct association. Given that 30-40% of young republican DC staffers may be groypers (not exactly a scientific poll but I mean…doesn’t this comport with recent experience), is it surprising that he’s cozying up to a literal nazi in a desperate attempt to stay relevant to the next generation of republicans?
And as Knowledge Fight (honestly pretty
exhaustinglyexhaustively) shows: Fuentes has been making the rounds lately. All the right-wing grifters and shitheels have had him on—they are fully on board with the sentiment. This is precisely what 4chan circa 2016 hath wrought: the old guys are still “hiding their power level” but the young republicans are out and proud nazis. This is just Tucker tapping into that base. For money. As bleak as all that is, I still hold on to hope that there are enough of us who have resisted the brainrot and redpill propaganda enough to see these goofy assholes for what they are. Because listening to what they have to say should be a potent vaccine against their ideas. If you’ve got even a shred of humanity left in you.

World News@lemmy.world•Taylor Swift donates $100K to 2-year-old battling cancer: ‘Sending the biggest hug’English
6·4 months agoHere’s an example. One of the pills my wife took for several years to treat her breast cancer cost $16330.08 per month. Another was $15280 per month. So $100k would’ve lasted her about 6 months (she took one drug, then switched to the other). This of course doesn’t include the chemo given by injection, the medications she took to combat all the side effects from that, the radiation therapy, mastectomy, reconstructive surgery…
But if you’ll let me opine for a minute here, $100k from Taylor Swift is an insult. Just as a goof, let’s reframe this from Taylor’s perspective. She flies around in a Dassault Falcon 7X. This plane has a fuel capacity of about 32,000lbs, which at 6.75lb/gal and a nationwide-average Jet-A price of $6.28/gal today, costs about $29770 to fill. So it’s about 3 1/3 tanks of gas for her plane. Apparently a child’s life is worth about as much to her as not having to fly commercial a couple times.
But it’s even more ridiculous than that, because Taylor Swift is worth $1.6 billion. $100k is a smaller chunk of her net worth than a single fucking Big Mac is to the average American. Don’t go to McDonald’s. Eat the rich instead.

News@lemmy.world•AI scammer posing as Marco Rubio targets officials in growing threat
5·8 months agoStories like this just reinforce my belief that AI will destroy us all. Not with a cool robot uprising like Terminator or Blade Runner, or even enslavement of humanity like the Matrix or Wall-E. We get the stupid future, where civilization ends when a Reddit shitposter creates a Trump-flavored chatbot and convinces the joint chiefs that they need to send him the nuclear codes via Signal because you can’t text on the red phone.

News@lemmy.world•Trump says 50 percent tariff on copper imports imminent
241·8 months agoHe’s stupid, yes, but he surrounds himself with people who are also greedy and malicious. This is just straight-up market manipulation.
After Trump announced plans to levy tariffs on the metal, copper futures jumped as much as 17 percent, Bloomberg reported.
The play is simply to buy a bunch of futures contracts beforehand, wait for the announcement and the resulting price spike, and sell immediately for a tidy 17% gain, or hold til just before he announces yet another “extension”. How many times has this happened so far this year? It’s so tiresome.

News@lemmy.world•Trump suggests he could use military force to acquire Panama Canal and Greenland and 'economic force' to annex Canada
0·1 year agoMany people are saying that we need more space. More living space, it’s a huge problem. We’ve been treated so badly being stuck in the room we’ve got and so I said to now former governor of Canada because he resigned in disgrace, Justin (I call him Justin), Justin we need more living space, you’re going to be the 51st state you know. You know they used to have a word for it, they called it lebensraum, did you ever hear of that? Most people don’t know that but they used to be very big into that and then the radical left made it a bad word to say. But I think we need to bring it back.

I think you’re 100% right, and boy, this piece made me big mad. Yet another outlet breathlessly publishing fucking nonsense for a ghoul, who by uncritically publishing said ghoul’s dire warning of the imminent birth of a superintelligent malign(?) entity, serves as his unpaid marketing firm. Axios should be embarrassed. If anyone who wasn’t the head of an LLM company spouted this drivel, they’d be locked away in a padded room and Axios would rightly be called out for exacerbating the mental health crisis of a paranoid schizophrenic.
The whole essay reads like, “Here at Anthropic, we’re doing our best to create the Torment Nexus, but if anybody else were to successfully create the Torment Nexus, that would represent an existential risk for humanity. We’re doing our best to create it first, so please give us more money. To save humanity. From the Torment Nexus that we created.” It would be utter lunacy if he actually believed it.
