I generally cook at home and maybe 1-3 times a week I go out to eat or pick up food. I’m anosmic (no sense of smell, very limited sense of taste), so I struggle to cook whole meals for myself and pretty much can’t cook anything other people can eat. That means what I “cook” at home is almost exclusively simple food like sandwiches, pasta, and frozen/premade stuff. I never get delivery, but I live in an area where I’m a 10-20 mins drive away from like 100 places selling all kinds of food.

FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the most ridiculous “life hack” you’ve ever heard of?English4·9 days agoI’m really not sure what it is. It works surprisingly well and quickly which makes me think it’s more likely some kind of mechanical turk thing than ai, but when you drive up you talk to what’s clearly some kind of tts thing that pushes all the upselling stuff. The upselling is annoying and you have to practically shout no at it multiple times, but it does get the order right just from natural speech.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the most ridiculous “life hack” you’ve ever heard of?English43·10 days agoWhenever my friend goes to one of those drive thrus with the ai ordering thing, he asks for 10,000 cups of water to get a human to talk to.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Your Lemmy/Reddit/Fetlife/etc profile is tied to your real name and browsable. How screwed are you?English2·13 days agoActually more people in my life know about my “intimate preferences” than they know my opinions on what I post online. Everyone wants to know my kinks, but nobody wants to listen to me whine about the government and corpos. smh my head
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How diverse are your sources of information?English5·17 days agoI don’t really have an ism. I’m not well read on any of them tbh, but I think all forms of government are fundamentally unstable just because of human nature. I just want whoever or whatever’s in charge to help people and work towards equality. I think the left generally let’s “perfect” get in the way of “better”, so I try to avoid ism conversations.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Anime@ani.social•[Discussion] What anime triggered a new interest in you?English3·17 days agoSword Art Online came out either before or around the same time Oculus did it’s kickstarter and I’ve been a VR degenerate ever since.
I never even thought about VR before that, but the idea that I could one day be totally immersed in a world where I could do anime level stuff is something that still sounds so cool. I’ll probably be dead before we get SAO level VR, but some experiences like VR in racing games are already incredibly immersive.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How diverse are your sources of information?English62·17 days agoDiverse how? I get most of my news from like 5 podcasts and from Lemmy. They’re pretty biased towards the left though. Lemmy is probably the closest to neutral I get.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto ADHD memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•What's your organisation system?English4·17 days agoI have boxes and drawers with vague categories of contents. It works well enough.
I feel this, but for Midnight Club 3
Emojis are for the girls and the homies. Sorry, I don’t know y’all like that.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto World News@lemmy.world•UN report finds United Nations reports are not widely readEnglish14·24 days agoThe UN is struggling financially and this report makes the claim that there’s too many meetings and reports that no one reads. They said their most popular reports get 5000 downloads and 1 in 6 reports gets less than 1000 downloads.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which games made you go into an "addiction phase"?English5·25 days agoFor the entirety of high school I only played Team Fortress 2, League of Legends, and Melee. I have 2000+ hrs in TF2 and probably more in the other two. Then in college I was on the Overwatch team and played in the college league, I have a bit under 5000 hrs in that.
No games I have come close to that kinda play time and none probably will since I have less time to game and I’ve kinda been losing interest in gaming in general.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Let's say you are teaching a basic, 1-hour-long class to the general public about privacy and general tech hygiene. What kinds of topics would you include?English3·27 days agoI don’t think the general public will walk away caring much no matter what you say. I’m not trying to dismiss your question. Though I can say from personal experience, that an hour isn’t enough time to convince most non-techie people to change their online habits at all.
Most people I’ve talked to about any of those topics essentially already has a vague idea that it’s an issue, but they just kinda shrug since nothing’s happed to them yet and they think its probably too late anyway.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Now that I've got my conclusion, it's time to go look for evidence that only supports said conclusion!English32·1 month agoWhat exactly is there to judge here? There’s almost no context. When I was an English major, this was the process for writing literally any paper. You pick what you want to write about and try to find published articles that support your claims. If you can’t find any, pick something else.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the low-rated movies you enjoyed the most or think should be rated much higher?English1·1 month agoMaybe if those ratings came from a movie theater exit poll, then I’d agree. Instead it’s like most other self reported ratings online. Essentially no one enters their rating except for: the people who really liked it, people who really didn’t like it, wannabe critics, weirdos who like to spend their time rating things despite never having seen them, and bots. The vast majority of people don’t rate movies because they don’t care enough. In my opinion ratings are just easily manipulated data that often exists just to reinforce conformity of opinion.
If you look at the ratings for the first “Kissing Booth” movie, there’s tons of reviews that essentially say the lead actress wasn’t hot enough. Then you consider that despite the first movie being rated terribly, the company thought it was actually well enough received for them to make two more movies.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the low-rated movies you enjoyed the most or think should be rated much higher?English3·1 month agoI watched the entire “Kissing Booth” trilogy with a friend recently. They’re cute teen rom-coms and I enjoyed all of the movies and characters. The writing is corny, but it seemed to intentionally have a kind of theater club vibe to me. I kept thinking the cast must have had a lot of fun.
Should it be rated higher? No idea. I think ratings are stupid tbh.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you enter a relationship with someone with genital herpes?English1·1 month agoYeah sorry, I did edit the title from just herpes to genital herpes after like the first two comments. I didn’t want the post to just be all edit notes. I don’t know which type she has and I didn’t initially understand the distinction. I know she has it down there and takes daily antivirals. I think the general information is still useful however because there’s a heavy stigma and the uniformed wouldn’t likely understand the distinctions like me.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you enter a relationship with someone with genital herpes?English5·1 month agoYou, her, and I seem to have pretty similar backgrounds. Although my church was more about “love thy neighbor” than penitence and punishment.
Upon further, clearer headed reading, it seems like it’s actually not as big a deal as we were raised to believe.
As far as her intentions go, I’m not really concerned about that much. I don’t turn anyone away, that’s just not who I am. I was just anxious writing this and a bit of my paranoia spilled out. I have no real reason to doubt her intentions, just trauma from people I should’ve doubted more.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•how many people came to this platform due to leaving / being banned from Reddit?English2·1 month agoAfter Reddit killed Apollo, I refused to participate and only used it for news and to see discussions about random stuff. I’d heard about Lemmy back then, but it sounded like it was Reddit for Reddit rejects which didn’t sound appealing. After the big Bluesky migration, I tried it out and I was more open to the idea of the fediverse. Lemmy ended up scratching the Reddit itch when I tried it, even though there’s a serious problem with sub discovery that I think holds it back.
I started wearing glasses at 17. I technically didn’t need to wear them all the time, but I just did because it was immediately much more comfortable on my eyes. I have a bent nose from a break and I got a little irritation from it, but the relief on my eyes was easily worth it.
My eyes aren’t super bad, I can actually be okay without them for most of the day. Neither eye is super bad, but I have a high astigmatism factor or whatever they call it. That makes my depth perception really funky and I can’t read anything at a distance.
I can’t really remember what difficulty I had at first besides the my nose hurting and getting used to the frames being in view. It definitely never made me nauseous though. You should probably talk to your eye dr about that.
