I use glorious Nixos.

This is not a recommendation. It is an abusive relationship. Do not install nixos without research.

Learning curve is steep. Everything is fine as long as you don’t need to compile some c program that isn’t available in the existing packages.

Have fun figuring out which libraries it expects to exist in a normal Ubuntu that are not in nixos.

There is flakes which I haven’t even touched yet, but people claim it makes everything easier.

You could do a vpn hosting by yourself.

Meaning your server is basically a vpn tunnel server and you can connect from the Internet to it. Once you are in the encrypted vpn connection you have access to the local network.

If you have dynamic ip you need dns though. But no one can connect just because they know the ip)/dns

As long as you don’t use Nixos windscribe is even better than nordvpn. I just remembered my problem is my os and not only the app.

For mullvad idk. I used it for a month for testing and it worked fine with openvpn. I didn’t use any app.

So apparently mullvad and windscribe are the best ones people use.

And I am using windscribe no problem.

It is however not as good integrated in Linux as nordvpn. But it’s a lot cheaper.

I have one, but if I buy a laptop I need to be able to connect it to ethernet, hdmi and a mouse and keyboard.

And preferably I don’t carry a docking station with me too.

So I would need at least 4 usbc ports.

Or the other ports are already on the laptop.

If I don’t have that I can use my phone instead.
