  • “Looks just like RIF”

I seriously don’t understand how that’s a positive. RIF always looked and felt like it was badly designed on purpose. Like some shitty thing from the early 2000s. But seeing the shit people do with theming on their phones and other stuff it’s weirdly not surprising, still doesn’t make sense. It’s actually vile looking.

  • It’s not smooth at all, IMO. Lots of visual annoyances which makes it feel stuttery and just bad. Been a Sync user for years and going from that to any other app is just a bad experience… I try all lemmy apps I come across and they either just look bad, no matter how much I change settings or they lack several major things that I just won’t be without. None has come close to feeling like a replacement yet, and it really sucks that it seems Sync is actually dead now.

Those are called trikes… obviously. How have you not figured that out? Bikes are called what they are because they have two wheels, “Bi” meaning two, same as we humans are bipedal because we walk on two legs. If a person had a third leg they wouldn’t be “bipedal with three legs”, they’d be tripedal.

I seriously don’t understand how anyone older than a literal child fails to understand that.

  • How is it that all these lists are always kinda bad? They always miss some obvious good alternatives or have ones that shouldn’t be there. I’ve seen so many posted and not a single one has been without issues. And these are not subjective things I’m referencing, I’d have no issue with that, they just always seem to be made by someone who has very shallow and uninformed knowledge about the alternatives. My main issue here is Kagi missing from search, and Proton and Brave being part of any of the recommendations.

  • The latitude and longitude, height above sea level, atmospheric stuff like particles, moisture, and everything else in the air affect how the sunlight gets filtered. It’s the same as the temperature being different in neighbouring cities or even neighbourhoods but generally on a larger scale. Most things have an effect, even stuff like what kinds of plants there are in different countries can have an effect. Imagine a building with lots of rooms in a line with windows. Everything from curtains, every piece of furniture, where in the building it is and how hot and dry the air is inside each room will affect the light inside that room. Same with cities, countries and continents. There are so many things that can affect it, so inevitably all things together will end up giving different results.

  • In a beat boxing tone:

Beans 'n rice (repeat as many times as needed).

Also do pasta with tomato sauce a lot, add whatever I have or what I can find on sale (mostly lentils, beans, frozen vegetables (kinds that have protein)).

I’ve always loved lentils but I’ve kinda rediscovered them lately, it’s crazy how good they are in every way. Cheap, somehow always makes more food than you think, easy to cook and extremely versatile, makes you feel full with less and keeps you going for longer. Truly a superfood IMO.

  • So many, it’s generally how it goes for me as I mostly play one game at a time. But some that have REALLY made me dive deep and play many hours a day for long times: Halo 1, 2, 3 and Reach, Elder Scrolls Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, Minecraft, Terraria, Starbound, Satisfactory, Forza Horizon 4 and 5, Rocket League. There are many more, these are just what I thought of at the moment.
And the one I still play a ton and see no end in sight is Warframe, such a good game, and both the community and the devs are awesome so even after getting 1,200 hours in two years I’m still giddy about it and have so much fun.

MacOS is so much better than Windows in every way. The amount of software available is crazy. So many nice apps, menubar tools, finder alternatives etc. And they’re generally nicely designed and updated, which very much isn’t the case for Windows. Using Windows has been a horrible experience for the past 20 years, and it wasn’t great before that. Want some basic simple app for a specific thing? It’s either some heavily bloated shit that costs money and takes up way more system resources than it needs to or it’s a several-decades-old thing that just doesn’t work anymore.

  • I wouldn’t describe myself as attractive, just not unattractive. And I’ve always gotten a lot of matches (with actual people). My social anxiety has been in the way of going further with it most of the time but it’s always been easy to find a date almost immediately when I want. One thing I know helps is my clothing style, 60s-70s, and I recommend people to try to find a style that they like and use photos that show it.

  • For me with gaming (both playing and dev), a Steam Deck. Never wanted anything more in my life, seeing people have them and barely use them hurts. But I’m on long-term sick leave and live paycheck to paycheck, not able to save anything and it doesn’t look like that’ll change anytime soon. And it’s more than just wanting a cool thing, all I have is a shitty laptop from 2010 that barely plays 1080p video, and a TV I found outside that gets so warm that it’s hard to sit in front of for longer than two hours at a time. The laptop has no battery so it has to be used with the charger connected all the time and it’s too heavy to comfortably use anywhere but at a desk. I also have back and knee problems and having something like a Steam Deck would allow me to play and develop in bed or on my sofa and save me some pain.
