Streaming to another location than where your Server is setup is tricky, mostly due to latency and establishing a connection that doesn’t get throttled(or compromised) by the ISPs involved. Personally, when I tried to get into it, about 10 years ago, I didn’t have the budget for a GPU that could be persuaded to support it at all.

Today, I’m more likely to keep such a server in my vehicle(on Battery/Solar), so its always just a local connection away, if I were to bother with the budget and hassle involved*. Around the house, I’ll just slap a new desktop together where I want to play games, or game on my laptop, and call it done.

*Ideally, I could build this for less than my good laptop would cost to replace, and use something much closer to outright disposable to game outside of my car. In practice, I just bring my good laptop with me everywhere, risk be damned.

Snapchat is not one I expected to be an exception, but I don’t use it and I prevented my kids from using it until they turned 16(ish?). Took that long for them to demonstrate anything like critical thinking and self-restraint re: social media.

Still does. This article should have been a PSA about an on-going issue with multiple apps, but they insisted on a villain to blame as somehow being worse than others. All of these apps will randomly and repeatedly ask to enable such things; They have done so for years and years.

Its a feature my kids dealt with between themselves and their friends years ago(yes, on Instagram). This is the same generation that randomly lets friends borrow their phones and even post as eachother on various platforms.

I’m not saying its a non-issue, but those ignorant of it are truly ignorant, not-so-much newsworthy.

The phone calls I need to make in a given time-frame get made at the intersection of this and my willingness to make phone calls, or if I happen to be driving during business hours when asked to make a call, so … once a week or so?

I’mma go with “its useful” to do things the hard way often enough to stay in-practice, as the hard way is both often a backup method and either the method newbies are trained on, or a differentiator between newbies who would rather let things slide when the easy way isn’t working, versus motivated people worth incentivizing.

Sometimes the incentive is “not having to attend remedial training”, sometimes its additional training and raise/promotion opportunities. Its worth remembering that today’s hard way was often the new, easier way in the past.

You’re talking what’s available to employees. I’m talking hiring choices. I’m not suggesting penalizing employees for commuting, although enough working people identify with this non-sense that its not out of the question either. My stance is no more extreme than the absurdity of what I’m against.

Employers should be more about helping with moving expenses if they can’t find the talent they want close enough, and if the talent doesn’t want to or can’t afford to live close-by, look at increasing pay or even moving their operations. Instead of demanding people come off work-from-home to drive who-knows-how-far-away, the rules should say they can’t do that. Maybe they could open satellite offices if its worth even half the non-sense they spew.

They should make this a literal law for car commutes. Waste of gas, waste of human sanity, and a bane of CO2 emissions.

I would almost go so far as to call commuting further a mark of a class traitor, but also, to make it worth it, you should be making enough to put you in the top 10% of earners anyways … I guess I’ll specify, you should be netting that much after gas and taxes, and if not, let me ask you: Why, just why do that to yourself?

I want to build and drive a modernized flail-tank, because existing ones are either too broken-down or still in use, but there’s the costs to build and run it I can’t afford, plus the fact I need to eat, etc.

I would be more interested in themed favicon sets like on Android or Linux DE’s, and any way that would avoid Google or lock-in/forced updates to such as with the Play store or Windows I would avoid like the plague.

Gimme back .dll’s full of icons I can create and edit to my liking. For modernization, meta-text(url or application name) for each icon instead of referencing “icon #x in this .dll”, and a format more usefull than .dll’s full of icons that all have to be the same size(and .tiff, .giff, or bitmaps at that, when jpeg and vector formats exist), but that’s about it.

All this re-inventing-the-wheel/web2.0/3.0 shit is geared towards creating dependency and lock-in in the stupidest ways possible.
