Technology@lemmy.world•64GB of DDR5 RAM now costs more than a MacBook Air - memory prices have surged 300% in just six monthsEnglish
241·11 hours agoWhen I first saw “GeForce Now” that’s exactly what I imagined. Building a market for cloud computation. “Just own the display, we will rent you the brain for it”. Currently they are choking the market with orders for ram that does not exist, paid with money that does not currently exists and the output of this situation is that prices go up artificially which will eventually drive the users exactly in a scenario where they will rent out computing power “for cheap” to play that latest game for 2-3 hours.

Technology@lemmy.world•A remote code execution vulnerability has been found in Microslop NotepadEnglish
251·1 day agoMicrosoft recently added Markdown support so it can handle things like bold text, links, and images.
But in doing that, they accidentally created a problem where a malicious text file could hide a link inside it. When you open the file, Notepad might follow that link, which could then download and run harmful code on your system.
So now, in the worst case, just opening what looks like a normal text file could put your computer at risk.
Thanks Microsoft.

1·11 days agoA sad truth and given how diverse we are as people, I don’t think we will be able to achieve some sorts of middle ground for proper cooperation anytime soon or ever if at all.

World News@lemmy.world•Forces given ‘blank check’ to kill protesters in Iran, senior official saysEnglish
21·12 days agoEveryone agrees that killing protesters is wrong, no matter the number. The real issue isn’t just about how many deaths justify action, it’s about fairness. Why do some countries face outrage and others don’t?
Instead of arguing over numbers, maybe we should focus on how to hold all governments accountable without making things worse. (Which is just dreams, we can’t really hold anyone accountable nowadays)
Violence from outside rarely fixes things, but ignoring injustice isn’t the answer either. The goal should be justice for all, not just the cases that fit our biases, and no country should unilaterally decide when or how to intervene in another’s affairs without facing serious scrutiny.
Ultimately, I don’t believe the US and Israel would intervene in Iran to protect protesters. It feels more like a pretext to install a regime that serves their own interests, more precisely, Israels interest. For “the great israel”.
Also, never forget Holodomor, done by the zionist stalin in order to decimate a freedom movement at that time.

4·12 days agoBoth of us use different antennas (literally scrap), we use meshstatic with raspberries.
This will be of much help if you’re looking to get started: https://meshtastic.org/docs/hardware/
Also 300km is indeed almost obstacle free, there’s lots of villages and forests in between but one of the antenna is located on 12th floor of a building in a city. Coverage is not really the issue, even inside the city with all interference, we did manage to establish a proper connection within 3km, one antenna on 4th floor and the other one on the first floor with lots of tall buildings in between. (Worked much better than expected)
Mad fun project to get started with, highly recommended. Is it of much use? Not yet, not really. But we are planning on pumping up the power a little bit, add a few more nodes and hopefully we will be able to deploy a Lemmy or something and step by step we will create our own shitty “undernet”.

81·12 days agoI actually built a LoRa network with a mate, if we stretch our antenas we can cover almost 300km with little to no energy but the latency is absolutely trash, though communication wise it works alright.
We should have less and less trust handling our data like we currently do.

News@lemmy.world•Exposed Musk Now Insists Epstein Files Don’t Matter
7·12 days agoIt really takes a certain set of skills to be able to fuck up this bad while inheriting such massive wealth. It’s not like money makes you more intelligent but it does provide access to so many services, from lawyers to consultants and *in most of the cases * some sort of competent people that might be able to help guide you so you don’t absolutely wreck your whole persona.
I suppose he is too full of him and just does whatever he desires, which is most likely.

I really hope so but I can’t help but to think that they are going to drag it for as long as possible, because no matter how bad the situation is for the common folk, they are still going to make a profit off of it.
