I’m on a pixel 8 with 256 similar to your other reply. Graphene is supporting back to early pixels and has weekly updates so I don’t think phone age makes a support difference, I just went with the newest reconditioned one I could afford.

I use signal, Lemmy (Thunder), NewPipe (for YouTube), Aegis auth, banking apps (but check forums on specific banks).

Losing Google Pay made me feel like a peasant for a while, I now have a case that carries cards and feel fine.

I switched from Vanadium to Iron Fox because I like the extensions, uBlock and Consent-O-Matic.

I’m in a really odd position, in that I’ve always been a futurist and massive tech fan. I thought that I would be signing up for any AI tooling as soon as it appeared, chip in my head, bionic eye, the whole nine singularity yards.

What I’ve found instead is a disgust with the concept, the way it’s been implemented, the big tech arseholes at the top of the money grabbing companies that have driven it all to it’s current omnipresent position.

I want my AI, under my control and with my best interests at heart doing helpful things for me at my behest and control. It’s what I was promised in all those sci fi books, not this commercial pap.

My mum told be the other day she logged onto a new bank, gave it a 12 character password then couldn’t get back in after. When she got through to their customer services they said that it was an 8 character password limit (!), but it just never said on the register screen.

I use Ironfox and have never found cause for complaint. I’m on GrapheneOS which shipped with vanadium but I wanted the adblock and consent-o-matic addins so switched.

The US president wearily says “Maurice, get out of the room, get out now” and then there’s a scene with the Martians attacking the French cabinet and the Eiffel Tower

I’m reminded of that scene when people think they can honestly negotiate with these guys
