Photopea is a good alternative to Photoshop when you need automatic subject selecting and other powerful features. They have a very similar UI, but it’s not FOSS and they want you to see ads or pay to use features repeatedly. Nonetheless, it is the best I have found for my use cases.

I saw Anthony Bourdain on TV review a Bánh Mì restaurant in Vietnam and told myself I would eat there someday. Went to Vietnam, pretty much the first time I traveled ever. Went to the Banh Mí place. It was at night, there was a very long queue to get in, I waited in line and ordered. At the counter and on the walls, multiple snippets of newspapers and pictures of Bourdain with the staff and chefs. I sat down with my food, and as I started eating, I received a notification on my cellphone from my local news network at the other side of the world : Bourdain just killed himself.

It felt very surreal. I was looking at all these pictures with the feeling I knew something all these people didn’t yet.

I mean, I would turn the laptop around. Or the webcam on the PC. Or use my phone for the call?

Oh I thought he served seven years because they suspended a longer prison sentence. Cool then.

Yeah some people must have different levels of face blindness or something, this is all uncanny valley for some other people.

Doing things right the first time is certainly a tip I’ll keep in mind. They probably would do a better job than me though, they are retirees having pretty much only cleaning and gardening as hobbies. And I’m not the best at both. Compared to my friends, I clean a lot, but compared to my close family, we’re not in the same leagues. They are “dusting-the-fire-alarm” people.

You know what, didn’t really think about this. I thought if I had to have professional help, it’d have to be a regular thing and it’s not in my budget, but I’ll look for that kind of service. I won’t be able to tell my folks about it, but they won’t know!

Yeah, thanks for that. I feel like I have a pretty high standard of cleanliness, after all I grew up with my parents, who are very nitpicky about it, but I never tell anyone I’m visiting that there is any problem with their own cleaning. Everyone has a life and their own responsibilities. I just wanted to see where the bar was for people.

Yeah, pretty much the same boat. Honestly I don’t really want to invite them anymore because of it, but I can’t shut my parents off. Maybe I could groom the cats ahead of holiday season lol.

I’d be curious about the grouping you do. I usually do the tidying before the rest what do you mean with cleaning at the same time?

Lol yeah, I only have two but wow is it hard to get every hair. I have a very dark couch in the basement, the textile on it makes it impossible to remove hair, I tried with sticky rollers and the red brush without success.
