arudesalad@sh.itjust.worksto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is there a way I can easily set up my own federated instance for free or no?English7·1 month agoBest way to run an instance for cheap is on your own hardware, but I would only do that if you are experienced with self hosting since it would require port forwarding (unsecure if done wrong)

arudesalad@sh.itjust.worksto World News@lemmy.world•At least 27 hurt as van hits pedestrians at parade celebrating soccer win in Liverpool, EnglandEnglish2·2 months agoIt’s not just that, the last time the police withheld information about something like this speculation about the missing information caused some of the worse riots the uk has ever seen, they are probably trying to avoid another situation like that.
arudesalad@sh.itjust.worksto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•You can't "skill issue" yourself out from every situation291·2 months agoFrom what I’ve heard about it, it’s because the default gtk style only fits in with gnome, and gtk4 made it really difficult to customise it and is also really buggy on anything not gnome.
That’s what I’ve heard anyway, I’m not a distro dev and the distro I last used is still on gtk3
arudesalad@sh.itjust.worksto Fediverse@lemmy.world•So... apologies if this isn't the right place to ask and I will immediately go to the right place if there is a better one... but I have a question about fedia.ioEnglish11·2 months agoThere is !fedia@fedia.io but that place seems inactive. I couldn’t find a status page listed in their sidebar. When I was looking around it was very slow so it isn’t just a problem with you
arudesalad@sh.itjust.worksto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Programmers then and now48·3 months agoOne of my favourite game dev stories from the 1980s is the story of Elite. It was a game people thought couldn’t be made. Most devs thought hardware wasn’t powerful enough and publishers thought it wouldn’t be fun enough.
It was one of the first properly 3D open world video games ever made. I think when it released it sold nearly as many copies as there were home computers that could run it.
In order to make the game small enough to fit on a cassette tape they had to ditch basic and program the entire game, world in assembly.
There’s a fantastic video about it here: https://youtu.be/lC4YLMLar5I
arudesalad@sh.itjust.worksto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Minecraft on windows?English1·3 months agoDo you own the java edition? If you do then you get the windows version included, if you don’t, you don’t have much choice, it is probably impossible to pirate the windows version since it’s multiplayer is so locked down.
You’ll probably have to emulate android or buy it again to play on PC. At least you get java included! Yay?
Seriously, with views like his I don’t know how he ended up owning a place like tumblr

I am running an up to date version of raspberry pi os. The only bare metal program I am running is pihole, the rest are in docker. I’ll send a list of the containers when I can.

Chr prints the unicode symbol associated with the inputted value (in python). The team name uses several operators to have the inputted value be the amogus character
iirc, atprotocol was made to bring some features of mainstream social media to the fediverse that activitypub maintainer have said they won’t be adding. They explain other reasons in their faq
It doesn’t say there’s any limit on their github
