I just thought that not only would people be used to not being worthless, but that the rules would train them to be baseline. Stepping up moderation is clearly a major requirement and I’m sad that’s the case.

Banning bottom of the barrel lowbar zero effort trash like images of text, non funny showerthoughts posts that say “this water is hot”, stuff like that.
Lemmy is full of the worst reddit bullshit. I was genuinely surprised at first, primarily because I thought it was going to be a bit of a refuge from bottom of the barrel idiocy. Instead, it’s the worst of it.
The unbelievably pathetic trash is why I am still looking for a good reddit alternative. Seeing all of the problems we solved on reddit years ago is honestly kind of sad.
My view is that if we can’t have the things we want without ads, then we need a new business model. I’m not super into the whole kindness and donations model. If we need it to be state funded, so be it.
Why would anyone use a desktop? That’s like a baby’s toy!
Only for the parts that don’t help rich people.
Talking about China’s human rights issues right away is very strange. Nobody does this if someone mentions a US project.
You should look into it. Apparently it was quite a performance increase. I don’t understand all the technical details, but it is very cool to see what large enterprises do at scale.
There is absolutely no way that’s true lol
So why did Facebook build that whole system of converting C++ to PHP or whatever they did? Was it because they didn’t understand the savings? Or when you scale that high, the savings really are significant? Were there savings?
Edit to subtract: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HHVM is what it eventually turned into, and apparently it showed significant improvements even above the previous system.
Yep, I was just agreeing with someone else saying this is unenforceable. Just a ridiculous ploy and an attempt to make it precedent.
I honestly think it’s just a ridiculous ploy and that the product is fine. We need a proper regulatory system instead of this junk. I do think it’s unenforceable though.
Do you have more information on the trend of shoes getting canceled or not renewed?
Thank you!! I’ve been saying this for years. I have always said that I shouldn’t be forced to train Google’s trash software just because I want to go on some random website. It’s infuriating.
You do not have to use the command line to use most Linux distros. I think it’s a good idea to learn, but it’s no longer a necessity.
1000% they are out there. Thank fucking Satan they don’t dominate certain spaces the way they used to! I always kept a lot of tech at arm’s length because I wasn’t capable of having a knock down drag out fight every time I formed even the mildest of opinion on a feature or something.
I’m sorry to put this so bluntly, but technical people are some of the dumbest human beings on planet earth.
I appreciate your earnest answer. I hope that it’s organic and legitimate growth on his part. My fear is that he simply decided not to pursue right wing stupidity openly. I seriously want to be wrong about that, but not everyone leans into the right wing lunatic grift economy and all that.
Thanks, I’ll tell your waiter.
No, it is awful there. Reddit went from tolerating awful racism/sexism/homophobia etc. to automated moderation of even minor profanity. It’s a nosedive from hell.
Yep. They drive all the decent people out of anti porn feminist spaces, like the porn is misogyny subreddit. They need to be stopped.
