Ok, I was gonna reply bemoaning us never getting more seasons of The Dragon Prince after their post-season 3 hype, but I just went to double check and found there’s four more seasons?! Just under a different name?? How did I miss this? Time to catch up, I guess.

That’s because “hallucinating” isn’t a bug, it’s the core feature of llms. That tech bros have figured out how kludge on a way to get it to sometimes recite accessible data doesn’t change the fact that the central purpose for these algorithms is to manufacture text from nothing (well, technically from random noise). The “hallucination” is the failure of the tech bros to hide that function.

Making images worse is not a “good use of technology”.
Why did you regenerate an images of already existing shots from the show? Just wasting energy to make worse copies of things.

Ech@lemmy.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Have most people never seen a full starry night sky5·9 days agoWas lucky enough as a kid to get to visit one of those giant, astronomical telescopes one evening. The astronomer got it pointed at what he called a “star cluster” and invited me to take a look. I expected, like, a handful of stars. Ten? Twenty? I saw more stars in that cluster than I’ve ever seen in my life, and it blew my little mind. It was stunning.

Like, I get some companies will feel like they don’t have a choice if they want to stay open, but man…it really feels like a terrible idea to sell out to these people. They don’t care about anything except their own bottom line, and every asset they pick up will be used and discarded with that in mind.
Back to what, exactly? At what point in the past was it easier to use a computer than it was in the late 90s? Unless you’re talking about before computers, which doesn’t really have any bearing on what’s being discussed.

Like, half the popular games are blocked already. And setting this precedent will likely lead to further fuckery in the future. Hell, if philosophy is the driving factor for a good villain
…I didn’t say it was? That’s just Vaas’ whole schtick - poorly understood philosophical quips that everyone eats up for some reason. Again, if all you need is a bad guy constantly needling you, then I suppose I see why you like Vaas. I just don’t think that’s enough to make him “museum worthy”.
If we wanna get into what I think makes a top tier video game villain, I’d say the critical characteristics would be menace, intelligence, and capability. In short, they need to be an obvious threat that know what they’re doing and are a challenge to best, both mentally and physically. To be honest, I can’t think of all that many villains in video games that I would consider that good. GLaDOS fits for sure. I think the Kingslayer in The Witcher 2 is also quite good. Fumbled ending aside, Mass Effect had a good run of baddies as well - Saren, The Illusive Man/The Collectors, The Reapers. There might be more, but that’s all I can think of atm.
I mean, if that’s all you want in a villain, I guess, yeah - Vaas was constantly pestering the player. His dialogue and mannerisms were just awful though. Philosophy 101 freshman tweets level awful. I feel like putting him on the same level as GLaDOS should be criminal.
When is it going to stop being “He’s so incompetent, it’s like he’s doing it on purpose!” and start being “Oh, he’s doing this on purpose…”? This has been obvious for so long now.
