There are no alternative clients for WhatsApp as far as I know.
The only thing worth looking into are Matrix Bridges (or something with a similar name) but it’s a paid solution.
Now we only need to find a source of how many lgbtq+ fiction writers have been arrested in those same countries and we can proceed with the comparison.

their website shouts “scam”, but maybe they just have poor taste.
they give a pretty weird answer about audits in their FAQs. I’m not an expert, but I wouldn’t trust them compared to Mullvad which I currently use.
