I feel you there. Washington state has no income tax, so there are so many levers we can pull to raise revenue. Property tax is one of the big ones. Every time I get a ballot to vote on, there is some new levy they want to add. I generally vote yes, because I want schools to be funded and parks taken care of, but it does get to a point where our tax system is regressive.
Wealth taxes make sense. Those who can afford to pay a small amount more should step up. Mamdani’s plan of raising taxes on wealthy New Yorkers by -2%- is even less than what was passed in Washington state.

Most people dont make over 1,000,000 a year. A millionaires tax, like the one passed in Washington state, only taxes 9.9% of every dollar OVER ONE MILLION. The first million has the same tax rate as everyone else.
They still keep 90.1% of every dollar over one million. It is not as if it is forfeit. They will still be making a shit ton of money.

The problem is that all those services that people like and rely on? They cost money. Inflation and dipshit tariffs are eating into everything, so new revenue is required.

Cremation. Simple urn. Spread my ashes in the mountains.

Yep

I start with a pair of good insoles, then as those wear down I buy another, and another, and so on until the shoe tread wears out or holes appear in them. If you buy some of those magic eraser pads, you can usually keep the outside of the shoes looking relatively new for a lot longer as well. I have some shoes right now that are going on ~1.5 years and I’ll probably get another 1.5 out of them.
Pro-tip: don’t buy the cheapest shoes you can if you can afford it. I used to buy $20 skate shoes and they would wear out in less than a year.
I have had disagreements with people on Lemmy and not been downvoted. People here are more focused on debate and whether you are arguing in good faith.
Reddit was going downhill. Conversations are near impossible. You have to agree with the hive mind or you get down voted into oblivion. The monetization of the platform. The gamification of the platform. The AI bot problem.
There are too many to count. Lemmy is still small, and while it has its own problems, is not completely fucked yet.

This made me laugh so hard when I first saw it.
“They shot themselves in the foot and don’t even know it”

You summed it up perfectly

Very different from what I’m hearing from other sources, including people who have gotten the flu this year

You’re only selling it to me harder, haha
I played through Skyrim at least three times, so it’s just not the same. Great the first few times, but gets boring. The replay factor is high, but eventually you’ll need something new to try, which is why I suggested KCD!

Well said. Focus on what you can influence and realize most things are outside of your control.

Open world, massive side quest backlog, skill based progression, crafting, random little “why the heck is this out here…?” moments, a decent stealth system, and generally interesting characters?
Hits most of the boxes for me. I don’t think I would consider Skyrim replays ever again.

Exactly! I actually enjoyed KCD2 having to sleep on hay piles as a miscreants lol

If you’re looking for that Skyrim itch and are ok without the high fantasy, check out Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come: Deliverance (and its sequel). The story is compelling, the world is historical, there isn’t any magic or fantasy to it - you just get better at combat and that raises your societal status. Some of the characters are amazingly well written.
As someone who designs and builds networks as a profession, I don’t see this being a great idea. Maybe I just don’t have all the facts.
I am leaning heavily on the example of M$ trying an underwater datacenter, which they decommissioned and have not pursued further. Put a node of compute somewhere and eventually it will become obsolete or unusable due to hardware failure. Not to mention the energy requirements and cooling needed in space. Waste heat does not just dissipate unless it has a heat sink, which adds more volume and mass to the payload!
