Privacy@lemmy.ml•I answered: Is there an expectation of privacy in public?English
2·1 year agoI really like your phrasing of privacy as the choice of whether or not to share information about yourself, and I think this influences my stance on the expectation of privacy. Just because I’m going to the store for groceries, for example, doesn’t mean I would want a camera pointed in my face during the whole experience.

0·1 year ago- “excluding the Covid period”, this is purposeful sensationalism. Even the first paragraph of the article admits the title is misleading.

2·1 year agoA couple of weird things with displays every now and then, and I haven’t taken the steps to get the fingerprint scanner to work. I also can’t use the Proton VPN app, I have to install each VPN manually.

3·1 year agoCurrently running Pop on my Framework with the Cosmic DE. Pop was rock solid before. Alpha software brings in bugs of course, but it is still surprisingly stable.

News@lemmy.world•Stephen King leaves X, describing atmosphere as ‘too toxic’English
0·1 year agoAlthough federated social media has the “chicken or egg” problem with content and attracting users, I’m content with places like Lemmy and Mastodon staying the small size they are right now for a little longer.
Sure, I definitely miss content from other platforms from time to time. But I think your comment about businesses and celebrities rings true. I’m happy to be clear of the grifters and influencers for as long as possible.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•How could we convince Reddit subs to move over to Lemmy?English
0·1 year agoPost in communities that align with your interests. Post in communities for your geographic area, if you’re comfortable with that. Comment on posts you see, if you think you can add something of value to the conversation.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Just tried to register an account for Loops (there are 1000 videos available according to the fediverse report), no email received so far, have other people encountered the same issue?English
0·1 year agoI ran into the same issue you did. No verification email, and my login credentials won’t work on the app or on the website.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon announces first Kindle ever with color screen, retailing for $279English
1334·1 year agoI’d recommend everyone to buy a Kobo over these, it’s much easier to read your own .pdf and .epub files than on a Kindle.

Rust@programming.dev•What are you working on this week? (Sep. 29, 2024)English
3·1 year agoIts still in alpha, and is feature incomplete, but I am already blown away by the performance and ease of use. I figured there’s no better way to help the process along than build some apps for it!

1·2 years agoJust finished all the Rustlings exercises, moving on to some simple GUI exercises with libcosmic!
Mark Zuckerburg was up there at the inauguration because he is one of the richest men alive, and he became so mostly because of the platforms he owns.
By using the Fediverse and not his platforms, I’m denying him revenue from ads and data, even if its an infinitely small amount.
Use open platforms, give your money to ethical businesses and keep it from these assholes. Money isn’t the only way for someone to have power, but there’s no denying that the net worth on that inauguration stage was the most concentrated anywhere on earth. Don’t give them a cent more.
