No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Introverts of our era spend their time on their computers, but what did introverts do before? Like when literacy rates were lower (pre-1950s)? Or before the printing press?
1·2 days agoI think actually relaxing is productive, taking the time to be at your best possible performance is time well spent.
I just think that many modern activities are counterproductive to both rest and productivity.
Like doom scrolling is big-time counterproductive because it blocks rest by frustrating you but also doesn’t actually yield anything of benefit.

5·3 days agoNever has been free, the only difference is that there’s more junk to spend your time on now.
It’s always been up to you if you want to spend time productively or not.

7·4 days agoWe’re so fried.
Craving constant stimulation yet too anxious to enjoy anything actually stimulating so we resort to idle games because that’s all the responsibility we can comfortably enjoy.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with us, I think everyone is just super burnt out.

3·6 days agoI don’t really know about light and eyes, I just know that UV radiation is bad for you and I know that academic quality evidence for this is abundant.
It was easy to find multiple .edu and .gov sources that explicitly state that UV is harmful to your vision.
When people say things like “bright direct sunlight to the eyes” to me it reads as “touching grass is beneficial.”
You don’t need to look at or near the sun, there’s plenty of sunlight bouncing around on a sunny day. You also don’t need to expose yourself to UV so sunscreen is still a good idea.

8·7 days agoYeah I definitely feel better now that I’m not looking at reddit.
Still doom scrolling on Lemmy but like you said it’s slow and imo it’s a bit less hyperbolic.
I feel like you can have actual conversation and exchange ideas here as opposed to the reddit dunk off.

43·7 days agoI got perma’d a month ago for posting links to .edu domains showing proof that UV light damages your eyes.
Some guy was claiming “the CDC/FDA doesn’t know shit because I used to start into the sun to spite the people who told me not to.”
I got a redditcares and then a site wide shadowban.
No action on the appeal.
I decided not to make another account and to try quitting the internet, when that failed I decided to go to Lemmy instead of reddit again.
When Lemmy gets shitty like that hopeful I’ll be ready to disconnect for good.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI is not popular, and AI users are unpleasant asshats
1·7 days agoI’m so pissed that they had every plot line ready to wrap up but then just fucking didn’t.
It’s so frustrating because any device to keep these plots going is just contrivance.
I’m so incredibly disappointed that they decided against an anthology and are continuing the Marcy plot.
If there’s a season 2 I doubt it’ll be good, I’m super disappointed.

11·9 days agoI feel much the same, I want to completely unplug more and more with each passing day.
It may just be low blood sugar fueled pessimism but I don’t see anything actually replacing these massive sites.
It’s like trying to get into old multiplayer games where the few players left have a massive experience advantage that makes the barrier to entry impossibly high.
I think the best response is to just not participate anymore.
I’m far from that goal, hopefully enshittification will force my hand and push me offline for good.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Uncircumcised penis owners, did you ever wish you were circumcised?
261·9 days agoI did as a kid because I was different from everyone else.
As an adult I’m so incredibly thankful that I didn’t suffer genital mutilation because of social pressure from people I couldn’t care less about.
I’m very happy being natural.

B: It’s going to be lame as hell anyway. Gpt sucks at creative fiction. Ask it to write a short story and it’ll be the most blasé shit imaginable.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you seen progressive people be discriminatory either intentionally or unintentionally and if so in what way?
294·10 days agoPurity testing.
If you don’t align with the party narrative 100%, down to the atom, then you’re basically maga.
I don’t think people realize this is a major factor that drives people away from progressive politics.
When a conservative meets someone more conservative, they bitch about liberals. When a leftist meets someone more left than them they compete with each other to see who’s most “pure.”
This is a major problem.
The user never said that though.
The user posted a picture of Ted because Ted was anti-technology and now the user feels anti-technology sentiments because they were tracked despite taking precautions.
Nowhere do they express a desire for violence or other illegal activity.
