This is right up there with MS products replacing my double quotes with the stylized left and right quotes that end up fucking things up when copied into anything else. At least when I change them back, it doesn’t keep doing it like the really old versions of Word used to when they first added that sort of functionality (yes, i’m old).

zod000@lemmy.mlto RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Ninja Gaiden for DOS: rated M for "mistake"English1·6 days agoInteresting, I never saw either Thexder or Socerian in local stores at the time, nor I had even heard of them. It doesn’t look like GOG has them listed, but I’ll keep an eye out so I can possibly give them a try.
zod000@lemmy.mlto RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Ninja Gaiden for DOS: rated M for "mistake"English1·6 days agoCome to think of it, I think it was parallax scrolling that Id Software figured out that hadn’t been done properly before. I had never encountered any of the Japanese DOS games in the DOS days. I imagine there just wasn’t distribution of then in the US I guess. I would have loved to see some Nihon Falcom games.

zod000@lemmy.mlto RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Ninja Gaiden for DOS: rated M for "mistake"English2·6 days agoI loved both for what they were. There were a bunch of great arcade games ported to NES they were just totally different, but awesome games and both Ninja Gaiden and Double Dragon are on that list. Strider was a notable one too, where the NES was great, but so hard most people couldn’t get to see much of it.
zod000@lemmy.mlto RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Ninja Gaiden for DOS: rated M for "mistake"English3·6 days agoI don’t feel that those ports, or this Ninja Gaiden one, were horrible or “mistakes” (I owned this game and Megaman 3 for DOS). The PCs at the time didn’t have the specialized hardware to do smooth side scrolling, and John Carmack and crew’s novel way to do it without the hardware was still their secret. It was honestly the best side scrolling game you’d find on PC despite the jank.
At least the vibe coder is rocking some nice headphones.

He has since finally stopped trusting Copilot code without more testing.

zod000@lemmy.mlto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•"This Is The ONLY Home Server You Should Buy" Or, why older computers may be better for the environment | Hardware HavenEnglish71·14 days agoI’ve had great luck using Intel NUCs as home servers and HTPC boxes. Since those are now gone, I have found that Beelink is the most cost effective replacement when I needed to revamp the setup. My biggest complaint on them is that the cooling fans on them are not super reliable and it is not easy to find compatible replacements. I had to order them direct from China and there are a few wiring incompatible variants. I ended up with one of them being the wrong type and I had to resolder the leads to match the existing broken fan.
zod000@lemmy.mlto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I found this keyboard for like $3 and it’s perfect1·16 days agoSadly, you’d have to build a custom board to get a hotswappable keyboard with a BAE.
zod000@lemmy.mlto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I found this keyboard for like $3 and it’s perfect1·16 days agoThe colors refer to the types of Cherry MX switches and the common clones have mostly stuck to the format. Reds are really light and linear (no bump when you press down), Brown is light with a small tactile bump, blue is light and clicky. No beige, but clear is heavy with a big tactile bump, and green is heavy and clicky. You can get keyboards with non-Cherry branded switches really cheap these days. I’ve seen some on amazon for $20 (not that these would be great quality)
zod000@lemmy.mlto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I found this keyboard for like $3 and it’s perfect1·16 days agoWhat? I quite literally have a bunch of BAE sporting mechanical keyboards. I am not a fan, and I feel that they fell out of favor for a reason, but to each their own. If you’re trying to find one, they are usually found with less common vintage switches like Alps switches, SMK switches, Hi-Tek (space invaders switches), and some models of the IBM Model F.
zod000@lemmy.mlto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I found this keyboard for like $3 and it’s perfect3·16 days agoWe always called them a BAE (Big Ass Enter)
zod000@lemmy.mlto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I found this keyboard for like $3 and it’s perfect2·16 days agoWhile I mostly agree with the Model F statement (I own four for a reason), I think that a clean set of SKCM Blue Alps are probably the next best clicky switch. I’d pick it over a Model M any day.
zod000@lemmy.mlto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I found this keyboard for like $3 and it’s perfect3·17 days agoThat’s sadly common with SKCM Alps switches. You can clean them out, but it suuuucks to do a full keyboard of them.
zod000@lemmy.mlto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I found this keyboard for like $3 and it’s perfect12·16 days agoMany/most of them can just use a DIN to PS/2 and then if needed a PS/2 to USB adapter. Unless you have one of the more exotic old connectors (SDL, ADB, etc), that is usually all it takes.
My main issue with people doing it, and I have multiple, is that it isn’t just helping them with grammar and punctuation (I don’t have any problem with people having the little editor autocorrect). It is rewriting the message entirely. Many times the new AI produced message had nuance and tone either added or stripped out, and rarely it has added items entirely. I probably wouldn’t have noticed it if my CEO been had not been using it so heavily to restate what has already been stated elsewhere, especially in cases where I have read or written the original statement. Let me tell you that when you are told vehemently that you said something that you did not because of AI help it is beyond frustrating.
